24 books challenge

Here's an attempt on reducing the number of my unread books from 70+ to 50+ in the year 2017. I will be doing a 24 books challenge where I'm going to read two books monthly according to the specific month's theme. I themed the months because I think it'll be fun so I can be more inspired to finish them all.

Most of the books in this challenge are either stand-alone or duo because they're easier to finish although I did include a book series for November and December. I will do an update post for every quarter of the year and any unfinished books can not be carried forward to the next month. Let's get on to it!

24 books challenge

1st quarter

January: Omnibus

  • Dorothy Koomson - The Chocolate Run
  • Dorothy Koomson - The Cupid Effect

I've had this book for years and I've never felt like reading it but I read their summaries again in the making of this post and they sound interesting! Why didn't I read it before I do not understand. Dorothy Koomson is such a great writer! My Best Friend's Girl is such a tear-jerking read.

Omnibus; a volume containing several novels or other items previously published separately.

February: Two books and a writer

  • Jodi Picoult - Sing You Home
  • Jodi Picoult - Between the Lines

These books were bought during a Big Bad Wolf sale out of impulse a few years ago. I love anything hardcover and Jodi Picoult is quite well-known for her books so I thought I would get them both.

March: A duo

  • Gayle Forman - If I Stay #1
  • Gayle Forman - Where She Went #2

I didn't like the movie version 'cause I don't like the actress playing Mia and I did read the first 30 pages of the book last year and it was kind of meh to me but I shall give it one more chance.

24 books challenge

2nd quarter

April: Low-rated

  • Jennifer Weiner - Best Friends Forever
  • Jennifer Weiner - Fly Away Home

I have a feeling that I'm not going to enjoy April books as much because both of the books have gotten pretty negative reviews on Goodreads. But, fret not — everyone has different taste and I tend to be lenient towards books so I might enjoy them both, who knows?

May: BDSM

  • Roni Loren - Crash into You #1
  • Roni Loren - Melt into You #2

Yup — you read that right. BDSM. #ThankGodImAnAdult. I hope May is not Ramadhan 'cause MASHA ALLAH SISTER. #OnlyInItForThePlot.

June: Chick lit

  • Sophie Kinsella - Wedding Night
  • P.S. I Love You - Cecelia Ahern

Sophie Kinsella is one of my favourite authors and her Can You Keep A Secret? is an awesome read and I'm dying to see it be made into movie. I bought P.S. I Love You 'cause all of the hype it had gotten when the movie came out but for some reason I never tried reading it. Bummer.

24 books challenge

3rd quarter

July: Little Black Dress

  • Kristin Hermel - Italian for Beginners
  • Jules Stanbridge - Sugar and Spice

I love Little Black Dress books and when I was in high school, all of their books were RM22 a piece which were a bargain for an international publication.

August: Cloak and dagger

  • Sophie Hannah - A Room Swept White
  • Lucie Whitehouse - The Bed I Made

A Room Swept White is a hard book to read 'cause you have to pay attention to every detail to a T. The clues lie within..

Cloak and dagger; situations involving intrigue, secrecy, espionage, or mystery.

September: Classic

  • Nathaniel Hawthorne - The Scarlet Letter
  • Jonathan Kellerman - When The Bough Breaks

We had to read The Scarlet Letter for one of my Bachelor's degree literature courses which I ended up not reading which I got an A for (hah!) so I thought I would take the time to read it since I've already had the book. When The Bough Breaks is more fitting for cloak and dagger month but I put it under classic because the book looks very worn out and awfully aged. Classic. Old. Aged.

24 books challenge

4th quarter

October: Unfinished business

  • John Green - An Abundance of Katherines
  • Stephenie Meyer - Breaking Dawn

I'm so sorry, John Green, but An Abundance of Katherines is my least favourite book of yours. I couldn't connect with the protagonists and the storyline is just bland. However, I will try and finish it just so I can have a peace of mind. And I'm ashamed to say that I haven't finished reading Breaking Dawn despite owning the book for more than half a decade because I watched the movie!!! Such lil bugger.

November: Clary Fairchild

  • Cassandra Clare - City of Glass #3
  • Cassandra Clare - City of Fallen Angels #4

December: Jace Herondale

  • Cassandra Clare - City of Lost Souls #5
  • Cassandra Clare - City of Heavenly Fire #6

I can't keep stalling any longer — I need to be done with this series once and for all 'cause I can't wait to start Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices #1)!

So there goes the 24 books that I'm planning to read in 2017. If I managed to finish them all, I will treat myself to one of Pipdig.co themes for my blog. Hehehe.

So are you planning on doing book challenge for 2017? Are you in a reading slump like I am?
