5 Blogging Things I No Longer Care About

Coming into my 12 years of blogging, I’ve read ample of posts on blogging things that all bloggers should care about. But here’s the thing — I’m done caring about blogging things I should care about. Blogging is a hobby to me and will always be a hobby, therefore, I do not want to feel obliged to adhere to certain blogging standards that are ‘set in stone’ by the blogging community. So here’s 5 blogging things I no longer care about.
SEO
Since I started using self-hosted WordPress, every blogging tips I came across mentioned how important SEO is if you want your blog posts to be on the first page of Google result. And that having to perfect my SEO hinders my blog productivity. I started getting super lazy to write a blog post because I feel like for some reason I have to make sure I get as much green circles as possible (if you’re using Yoast SEO, you’d be familiar with this). It’s just so annoying when my posts are not getting good SEO scores. It makes me feel bad about my posts and that my posts are not as good. So I decided to do one thing: to stop caring about my SEO scores and just write however I want. Bye SEO. 😉
Collaboration posts
Over the years, I’m blessed with many opportunities of making money via collaboration with brands on my blog. It has come to the point where I don’t agree to all collaborations that come my way especially the ones who don’t offer monetary compensation thinking that giving free products would suffice for bloggers. Newsflash — it doesn’t. So I’m going to take it down a notch with collaboration post offers and focuses more on creating contents which I’m kind of lacking these days. #blamingitonpregnancyhormones
Blog stats
I used to obsess over my blog stats and it took me a really long time to realise that it was doing me and my blog no good. I’d feel disheartened and uninterested to blog when my daily views are low so I had my blog stats hidden so I don’t have to see it every time I log into my WordPress dashboard. To be honest, blog stats are no longer important to me and if only 50 people read and still view my blog every day, then so be it. I don’t own a blog to become popular anyway and I would still blog even if the only views I’m getting are mine.
Following blogs just for the sake of follow-back
You know how many years ago when blogging was super popular we’d follow every blog we encountered just for the sake of getting a follow-back and for some reason we’d still do it until today? Well, the ship has sailed for me a long time ago when I realise that my Blogger and Bloglovin’ dashboards are clogged with posts from blogs I’m not even interested in reading. Not all blogs are my cup of tea as I’m more interested in posh lifestyle/beauty/personal type of blogs. Blogs that spam current news and giveaway entries on top of their lifestyle posts are a no-no for me. Sorry not sorry.
Forcing myself to put up blog posts when I don’t feel like it 😭
I used to feel that I have to put up multiple posts every week no matter what. While it may have worked for me before, it doesn’t work for me now that I am married with a baby on the way. I have other important things to do and my pregnancy hormones are all over the place that I prefer a three-hour nap in the morning and evening over sitting on my laptop typing away on the keyboard. I may have to come into terms that I can never go back to 2016 when I published 20 – 30 blog posts a month as I just don’t have the time anymore. It’s saddening but hey, things have changed.
What blogging things you no longer care about?
I tried to be more SEO friendly in the past and although it felt great to write something that more people would find “useful” and likely to stumble upon on the Internet, it doesn’t really give much space for me to put my own personality in it. Plus, I wasn’t usually even interested in the topics as well. Just like you, I try to write when I’m pumped up to write something I’m inspired with, when I like to. hehe
i agree. thanks for reading x
I love this! I stopped following for follow backs and it’s helped enormously. Mainly for the fact that I stay inspired, as I’m always seeing content that I want to see. Great post xx

I don’t care about followers and not getting comments doesn’t bother me much now lol.

Your points are spot on, babe. It’s like you read my mind. I gave up on SEO many moons ago, as well as blog stats.

All of the above. sometimes i am just tired of it and decided to do and write what I want instead of caring for such things.
i agree! it’s very tiring. thanks for reading x
We are on the same page about this. I never made any money with my old blog because I keep it low profile as it was my personal space and oh boy was it fun. I started my new public blog with the mindset to make money. Hahaha. So I read all the blogging tips and tried to follow them and it stressed me out so I decided to stop and blog whatever I want, whenever I want and read and comments only at blog posts that I like.
I honestly couldn’t care less any more about SEO either haha – my DA is ok without me putting any effort into it, I don’t want to spend my time studying something so dry to slightly improve it…

SEO is definitely in my list of things i don’t want and should not care about. ever since i started blogging, even back when blogging wasn’t profitable, i never really cared about seo. i mean sure, it’s a nice feeling when somebody out there read what we wrote. but at the same time, i feel like the moment one starts to think “how should i write/post in order to please others”, that’s when the authenticity begins to fade :’)
